SPORTS MEDICINE

Get back in the game!

At THEORY Physical Therapy, we have a deep admiration for athletes and the competitive spirit that drives them. However, this very drive can often be the root cause of overuse injuries.

But what exactly is "overuse"? An overuse injury is one that results from damage to tissues due to repetitive movements over an extended period. Even athletes with excellent technique can fall victim to these injuries when they neglect to take appropriate breaks, perform regular stretches, or fail to engage other muscles and joints in their bodies to alleviate strain in overused areas.

Overuse sports injuries can manifest in various forms, affecting muscles, tendons, nerves, or joints. Conditions like rotator cuff injuries, iliotibial band syndrome, tendinitis, runner's knee, and stress fractures (commonly known as shin splints) are frequent in sports-related injuries. These injuries can occur on the field, in the pool, on the golf course, in the dance studio, or at your local gym.

Delaying treatment for these pains or not seeking proper care from a licensed professional can worsen the situation, leading to more challenging recoveries or more extensive injuries. It's crucial to address overuse injuries promptly and effectively to ensure a smoother path to recovery
